Champions League

In this week the Champions League will have the second leg of the semifinals between French Club Lyon v.s. German Club Bayern Munich. This game will be played in France in Lyon's Stadium. The Germans have a 1-0 lead against the French squad thanks to a solid strike from Arjen Robben and a slight deflection from Muller. Lyon has the capability to over turn this score because they are in their ground soil and their fans cheering them. Also, another factor is that Bayern's superstar Franck Ribery will not be in the pitch since he was sent off and booked a red card in the first leg. This game will be electrifying because from this game we'll know the first finalist of the 2010 Champions League.

In the other semifinals the all powerful and currently champion winners Spanish squad FC Barcelona Will face Italian squad FC Inter. FC Inter has a solid 3-1 lead against Barcelona. Wesley Sneijder scored twice and the Argentine Diego Milito scored for the Italian Club. Although it's a good lead the Italian Club can't be let their guard go down. Barcelona has the ability to make a comeback and make it to the final. Barcelona has a solid team from keeper to striker. All of their players are in top shape. This is so called an anticipated final due to the fact that these two teams are battling is their domestic league to win the title.

The final is to be played on May 22 in the legendary Santiago Bernabeu Stadium in Madrid, Spain. That's the home stadium of the Barcelona's arch rivals, Real Madrid. The "Merengues" failed to make it to the finals, and a shot to the tittle in their stadium in the quarter finals against FC Inter.

My prediction for the semifinals would be that Bayern Munich will advance to the final and face Barcelona. I might even say that FC Barcelona could become champions again. Barcelona has a great squad. all of their players are currently in top shape, despite Iniesta from some injuries. Barcelona is the most solid team out of the European region. I wouldn't be surprise if Barcelona takes the whole thing, again!

U.S.A. squad to set training in Princeton University

The U.S National Soccer team will concentrate and camp in Princeton University before leaving for the world cup. The U.S. manager Bob Bradly will have the team report in May 15 for an eight-day camp between the 17th and 23rd of the same month. While in the U.S.A. the national team will face on a friendly game against the Czech Republic on the 25th and Turkey in the 29 on May. After playing Turkey the U.S. Will head toward South Africa to face Australia in another friendly game in June 5th and then wait till their World Cup debut against the the almighty powerful squad of England in June 12th.

Their last game was against the solid team of the Netherlands on a 2-1 loss in The Amsterdam Arena. The U.S. were contained by the Netherlands throughout the whole game. The last 10 minutes the U.S. fought back and was rewarded with a goal thanks to a header from Bocanegra. The team looked loose and not the same as the one that reached the finals in the Confederation's Cup last year in South Africa. The U.S. Squad needs to work in their offensive players. Donovan can't do it all alone. The Team is praying that Charlie Davies recover 100% from his car accident months ago. Brian Ching has lower his playing level. We hope that Jozy Altidore increases his game level.

The U.S. hopes to do better in this 2010 world cup. In the 2006 world cup edition the USA did poorly. They didn't win any games in the preliminary round and therefore knockout from the tournament. Having the so called "Group of Death" with Italy, Czech Republic, and Ghana the U.S. had a minimum chance of going on to the second round. Now that's left in the past and now the U.S. hopes to do an outstanding job as done in last years Confederation's Cup. This will be Bob Bradly's time to show what he's capable of doing with the U.S. squad.

The Left Out

Certainly Aguirre left out a whole lot of good players from the pre list roster of the South Africa World Cup. The current list s as followed:

GK. Guillermo Ochoa

GK. Luis Ernesto Mitchel

GK. Oscar Perez

DF. Paul Aguillar

DF. Efrain Juarez

DF. Jonny Magallon

DF. Juan Carlos Valenzuela

DF. Jorge Torres Nilo

MF. Gerardo Torrado

MF. Israel Castro

MF. Adrian Aldrete

FW. Pablo Barrera

FW. Adolfo Bautista

FW. Cuauhtemoc Blanco

FW. Alberto Medina

FW. Miguel Sabah

FW. Javier Hernandez

This list is 17 out of the 23 that Aguirre can take to the South Africa World Cup 2010. Many sports critics criticize the current list because some players don't deserve to go. For example, the goal keeper Perez. He is too old and wasn't called much throughout the world cup qualification. Jorge Torres Nilo, are you serious? He does not have experience. He's unknown of the things he's capable of doing. Adolfo Bautista. Wow! I was disappointed that this weak player was called. Last season he was in Jaguares and showed low game level, but when he went back to Chivas he had a good start and now people think he is super good. We have Cuauhtemoc, we don't need Boffo. Another teammate from Boffo in Chivas is Alberto Medina. Again Wow!! This players' time is up. His game level has drastically gotten down. He is not as good as he was before in the last world cup. The reason why this two players got picked was because Chivas was doing good on the local tournament and that this two player were " doing good". Yeah alright my grandma plays better then they.

Some players left out were, Braulio Luna, Oscar Rojas, Jesus De Corona, Jose Antonio Castro, Pavel Pardo, Angel Reyna, just to name a few important. Besides Pavel Pardo, the rest of the players were constantly called for friendly games and world cup Qualification games. This players were or are doing great ion their Clubs. as for Pavel Pardo he is a different case. He and Aguirre had a problem in the 2002 World Cup. When Aguirre took the national team last year, Pavel wasn't called anymore. Despite that Pavel is a historic player and has more than the skills and experience required as any other player in the current squad. But that is a whole different issue between the coach and player. As for the rest of the players they had a golden opportunity to go to the world cup, but now that opportunity is gone.

Aguirre still needs more players to call upon, the Europeans. There are about 11 players that Aguirre can call. The most controversial being Nery Castillo. Aguirre says that to not be surprised if he is called. Wow! Nery hasn't had constant participation in a team or club for more then 2 years. He is either injured or has problems playing for his clubs, since after the Copa America he's being going from club to club. Oh, but Aguirre says that he has personnel watching him over and says that he trains everyday. That's bullsh*t. There's a difference between practicing and actual real soccer matches. Don't get me wrong. I like the way this player plays. Nery is a unique player, something that Mexico doesn't have. If he can have more playing time, works hard and plays good in the upcoming friendly games then he could do something in the world cup. Time will tell.

Mexico's Goalkeepers for South Africa 2010

The Mexican manager Javier Aguirre has called up a pre-list of the players that are going to go to the world cup. The list or roster only includes players from the local Mexican National league. Aguirre can't call the other players that are playing in other countries because their clubs won't release them yet. Aguirre will have to wait until the champions league and the European tournament's are over.
The current squad that Aguirre called up is very controversial because he called up people unexpectedly, and didn't called people who seemed that Aguirre was going to called. For example the goalkeeper Oscar Perez. When Aguirre started managing the Mexican team he called up Perez because of his previews World Cup qualification in 2002. for the 2010 qualifications he called Perez for 2 starting games and that was it. He then called for important matches Guillermo Ochoa and Luis Ernesto Mitchel. I think that everyone can agree with me that the call up for Oscar Perez for the world cup was not a good choice. Perez has 37 years. You might argue that Cuauhtemoc Blanco has the same age, but he makes a difference in the team instead of Perez.Yes, some might argue that he will only bring help and experience to the other keepers, but in an interview Perez stated that he came to the squad to compete and not be in the bench. He wants to earn a spot and play in the opening world cup game against the host South Africa in June 11.

Even though Ochoa needs to work harder I see him as the starter for the world cup. Ochoa has the capability to be the goalkeeper of the national team. He has good reflects and always the virtue of a good players. He's a young active player who has a long future. Before he was rumored to go to Europe to Spanish's clubs like Espanyol, Deportivo La Coruna etc. However America didn't let him go because he was the best player they currently had in the squad. After being the second goalie in previews world cup he deserves a chance at this world cup as the starter. Oswaldo's time was over and now it's Memo Ochoa's time. As for Luis Mitchel he has also good chances of being the keeper. the main problem is that Mitchel doesn't have the experience as Ochoa does. Mitchel is six years older than Ochoa but, Ochoa has had much of a better career then Mitchel. Ochoa has been in more international tournament's then Mitchel. Is the upcoming world cup the first tournament with the national Mexican team that Mitchel has or will be participating: I think so! Simple and clear Ochoa has a better resume than Mitchel.

Worl Cup Is Almost Here

There are less than 2 months before the world cup starts and the tension, and excitement starts risings up. The World Cup will be played in South Africa during the start of June. it's going to be an awkward world cup because in previous world cups it has been played on hot sunny weather. However, in South Africa it will be during winter season since it'll be cold. The players that have played previous world cups state that it'll be something new for the event. All the 32 team national teams that will be competing in the most important world sports tournament will have to accommodate to the situation.

Last year we had the confederations cup in which Brazil won the final against the United States. That tournament was a preview of what people could of expect of the 2010 world cup. during the tournament there was lots of concerns about the safety of the event. As expected, the tournament was a success and everything ran smoothly. However, in January the 2010 African Cup Of Nations was held in host of Angola and was disrupted by a terrorist attack on the Togo's National Team. The bus on which the Togo's team was attacked and two people died and many were injured critically. After the incident lots of questions are asked in towards the world cup event security. Organizer of the event assure that the security is strengthen and renewed. Many concerns are of the transportation's security too. Some people say that the tourist that will go the the event will face difficulties since the transportation to city to city is not well organized. For any person that plans to attend the event is said to take awareness of all the things that could happen in the event. After all the world cup is an event in which everyone has fun rooting for their country's team. We hope that South Africa can host a great world cup and that everything is fixed for the kick off event in which Mexico will have the honors to open up a game against the host South Africa.
